"Hunter" by Bjork is a musical masterpeice.
I have to admitt on first listen, it sounds incredibly creepy, but now I am in love with this song! The lyrics can seem very simple, but when you're trying to analyze them - it gets harder. "If travel is searching and home what's been found I'm not stopping I'm a hunter I'm going hunting" What the hell is she saying here? She says "If travel is searching" like travel is itself an entity in search of something, but after much thought, I've decided that it means "If travel = searching." For someone in Bjork's position (a widely-know entertainer - no, a widely-known ARTIST), traveling is a way of life. What is she searching for? Somewhere to call home. But wait, she's already found home. The thing is, Bjork is by her very nature a Hunter. Not the kind that kills animals (or people), but a rogue, a girl in a constant state of wanderlust. Constantly looking, always finding, yet never stopping. So what is a hunter? A hunter is a student. Again, not a typical student (of a university, school, etc.), but a student of the world. That is what this song is about - learning, and never losing the thirst for knowledge. Bjork's delivery is equally as important as her lyrics. The music itself is composed of seemingly exclusive styles. Mournful string combine with a funeral percussion march. Thrown into this mix are gentle hums and electronic beats. How do these sounds combine to form something of such artistic importance? Only Bjork knows, I suppose. Bjork's vocal delivery is incredibly climactic. At first, she whispers mysteriously, is she unhappy in her hunting lifestyle? The way she happily bellows "I thought I could organize freedom? How Scandanavian of me!" at the song's climax suggests otherwise. Thanks for listening to me ramble. 'Til soon, I'm going hunting ;)
