I'm not totally sure why it's there, it's just a conflict of interest statement. For example, if one of the authors owned a company that manufactured a product that the study promotes, that would be a conflict of interest. Most people in science need to make conflict of interest statements, but it usually shows up in their grant proposals rather than published articles.
