Dorkgasm Pt. 2
Just what everyone has been waiting for! In honor of the upcoming release of X-Men 3: The Last Stand, I decided to rummage through my comics and pick out my five favorite X-Men rosters of all time!

5) The new New X-Men (New X-Men #114) - Beast, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Jean Grey, Professor Xavier, and Wolverine. The new New X-men had all the dynamics of a great super hero team. Take five X-Men staples, throw in a reformed villain with questionnable morals and minimal clothing, and the result is an unstoppable team with all the ingrediants essential for a great comic: marital strife, psychic affairs, and lots of leather.
4) The Astonishing X-Men (Astonishing X-Men #1) - Beast, Colossus, Cyclops, Emma Frost, Kitty Pryde, and Wolverine. How could one possibly make the new New X-men even newer and (dare I say) better? Joss Whedon hit the nail on the head by putting Emma Frost in charge of Xavier's school, reintroducing fan-favorite Kitty Pryde, and raising a long-dead Colossus from the grave. Oh yeah, and he brought back the spandex.
3) The New Mutants (The New Mutants Special #1) - Cannonball, Cypher, Karma, Magik, Magma, Mirage, Sunspot, Warlock, and Wolfsbane. Okay, so they aren't really X-Men, but Professor X-men brought them together in a time during which the New X-men (see #1) were assumed dead. The New Mutants brought the X-men back to their teen super-hero roots, even if the spandex wasn't baggy enough. Their best incarnation had all nine New Mutants living and working together.
2) The X-Men Blue Team (X-men #1) - Beast, Cyclops, Gambit, Jubilee, Psylocke, Rogue, and Wolverine. Jump in your time machine and travel to a time when neon clothing was all the rage and it was cool to say "...Not!" That's right, the early 90s. The Blue Team had all the necessities for early 90s success: bright colors, big hair, bulging muscles, and a resident loud-mouth teenager.
1) The New X-Men (The Uncanny X-men #150) - Colossus, Cyclops, Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Professor Xavier, Storm, and Wolverine. You can't beat the classics. While the New X-men had several incarnations, my personal favorite is post-Phoenix, shortly after Kitty Pryde's entrance and Cyclops's return.
Comments:
what??? No mention of Capt Britain ANYwhere??! Surely there's some mistake. And note how Wolverine shows up in, like, all of them. Do you think Capt Brit is anyone's favorite? Like there's some rabid Capt Brit fan out there, making his own action figures out of Ken dolls and GI Joes? Hey, if Dazz can have a fan, I guess anything's possible...

Hmmm, yeah, Wolverine DOES appear on almost all of them. But yeah...that's just because good writers choose to use him, I think. He also has some good dynamics with other characters (Kitty, Cyclops, Nightcrawler). As far as Captain Britain, I'm sure he has his fans, like all those Dazz and Jubilee fans out there. I must say the Australian X-men (Dazz, Longshot, Colossus, Rogue, Psylocke, Wolverine, and Havok) just missed the top five! (yeah...)
